Teaching Poetry in the Schools is a club that sends Colby students into local Waterville elementary classes to teach poetry. Using a variety of creative exercises and games, Colby students work with kids over the course of a semester to foster imaginative thinking and artistic expression in kids that would otherwise not have access to creative writing instruction. For many of the kids, creative writing gives them a venue to express the emotions and experiences that they previously could not put into words. Teaching Poetry in the Schools is a phenomenal way to gain experience in teaching, discover new insights into your own creative work, and make a tangible difference in the lives of local children.
